How Guide Dogs Australia advocates for the blind and low vision community
Have you ever wondered how Guide Dogs stays informed at a national level about government disability reforms and NDIS changes, while advocating for Australians with low vision or blindness?
The answer lies with the dedicated Policy and Advocacy Team at Guide Dogs Australia (GDA).
Four state-based Guide Dogs organisations are united under the GDA banner, to ensure a strong, collective voice when representing the community to the Commonwealth government. If you’re in South Australia, Victoria, NSW and ACT, or Queensland – your local Guide Dogs organisation is part of this vital alliance and speaks speak with a united voice through GDA.
The GDA Policy and Advocacy Team is actively engaged in several initiatives, including pushing for better disability transport standards including taxis and rideshares, addressing issues in the aviation sector, and responding to outcomes from the Disability Royal Commission. As we approach the next Federal Election, the team is also preparing to ensure that the needs of the Guide Dog community are front and centre.
