About the event

Two camp attendees help prepare dinner in the residential kitchen. One is cutting cheese and the other is grating cheese.

Guide Dogs Victoria are excited to be hosting Next Steps to Senior Camp, in the April School Holidays. This camp will build on the foundations developed through the Stepping Stones to Senior Camp program and been designed for late primary to early secondary aged students who are looking to further develop their O&M and OT life skills, preparing them to attend and actively participate in our future senior camp programs.

Next Steps to Senior Camp is an opportunity for students to identify and develop strategies to enhance their independent living, planning and travel skills within an age-appropriate framework.

Students will have opportunities to:

  • Participate in choosing and planning fun activities.
  • Learn how to move efficiently and effectively as a group through a range of environments.
  • Learn how to walk at a consistent walking pace using human guide technique.
  • Learn how to board and alight safely from public transport.
  • Dining out skills; accessing a menu, table etiquette, social/conversation skills.
  • Enjoy spending quality time with your peers and making new friendships.
  • Engage in meal planning and preparation activities by trying different equipment that makes food preparation more accessible, fun and engaging.
