Closure of CatchUp online platform, June 2024
Established by Guide Dogs Australia in 2022, the CatchUp platform was designed to pilot an accessible, inclusive and welcoming space where people with low vision or blindness and other like-minded people can connect and support each other. With limited accessible online platforms available at the time, accessibility was at the forefront throughout the design process.
While feedback from users has been largely positive, we are aware of the challenges of building and maintaining a stand-alone online platform, which requires additional logins and moderation for community members.
The support we’ve received to explore the potential for communities to come together online; from people around Australia, our Clients, grant provider TPG, our staff and others has been nothing short of incredible. We’ve taken many learnings from it and sincerely extend our gratitude to each and every advocate.
We believe there are now other online platforms available that meet the needs of our community, which is why Guide Dogs Australia has made the decision to close CatchUp on Sunday 30 June 2024.
In the meantime, we still have a range of other ways for you to engage with Guide Dogs Victoria and the blind and low vision community, including our Client newsletter and community events.
