About the event

A person sitting in front of a blue graffiti wall, smiling, with their black Labrador Guide Dog sitting at their feet.

This free workshop series is designed to help participants build effective communication skills in all areas of life.

In this interactive and supportive series, you will be supported to develop and learn new practical skills and the confidence to engage with others in social, work or community settings, while putting them into practice.

This workshop series covers:

  • body language (why is this still important when I have low vision?)
  • active and effective listening
  • how do I meet new people and network?
  • overcoming fear and anxiety in communication
  • techniques for assertive communication
  • ways to keep the communication flowing
  • how to manage difficult conversations.

Facilitated in person at Guide Dogs Victoria by Fiona Demark, a qualified social worker, life coach, and professional public speaker; Fiona has lived experience of vision loss and is passionate about helping individuals to develop the skills and confidence to thrive and achieve their goals.

A light supper will be available following each session. Please let us know upon registration if you have any dietary requirements.

Session dates:

  • session one: Thursday 19 September, 5 pm to 6.30 pm
  • session two: Thursday 3 October, 5 pm to 6.30 pm
