Discover how NaviLens is changing the game for navigation

June 04, 2025

Navigating unfamiliar environments can be challenging for people with low vision or blindness. Despite well refined orientation and mobility skills, locating landmarks in a space or navigating a space that is not built with accessibility in mind can be frustrating and stressful. That’s where NaviLens comes in!

NaviLens is accessible digital signage created to make navigation easier for people with low vision or blindness. NaviLens uses codes made up of a colour matrix barcode that users can scan to receive real-time audio and visual information. While NaviLens codes work similarly to traditional QR codes, there are key features that make them more accessible for low vision and blind users.

NaviLens codes can be read on the move from up to 15 metres away and do not have to be directly pointed at, meaning users can simply hold their phone up as they move through a space and codes will be automatically detected. Information is instantly relayed audibly and in text format with adjustable size.

NaviLens codes can be read using the NaviLens and NaviLens GO apps. The NaviLens app is specifically designed for people with low vision or blindness, providing more directional information with adapted audio and visual displays. The NaviLens GO app is designed for everyone and provides an increased graphical interface. Both apps can be used in over 30 languages.

The Victorian Tram network has already implemented the use of NaviLens codes, providing real-time information at stops and on trams, making it easier for people with low vision to access service information and travel easier.

At our Guide Dogs Victoria Kew Campus, NaviLens codes mark important areas, like our reception desk. This means that when Clients are visiting our campus, they can locate the reception desk easily, even on their first visit.
