About the Role
Canine Facility Assistant Volunteers assist with general duties to maintain the smooth running of Guide Dogs Nursery and Training Kennels departments.
Tasks may include cleaning kennels and yards using disinfectant (scrubbing, hosing and squeegeeing), laundry duties, washing dog bowls and food preparation, relieving dogs, bathing dogs, grooming dogs, walking dogs, free running dogs, and preparing bedding for dog kennels.

This is a weekly commitment of 1 shift per week for a minimum of 6 months. Shift hours are detailed below:
Weekdays: 8am – 1pm (morning) and 4:30pm – 8pm (evening)
Weekends: 8am – 1pm (morning), 2pm – 4:30pm (afternoon) and 4:30pm – 8pm (evening).
All volunteers must undergo a national police check before participating, and renewal police checks every three years thereafter. Checks can be organised Guide Dogs Victoria personnel and are free of charge. We also require volunteers hold a current Working with Children check.
In line with Guide Dogs Victoria policy, all active volunteers are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to undertake volunteer duties.
Successful candidates will be invited to an information session in March 2023, dates to be advised.

- General fitness and physical strength
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and complete tasks in a timely manner
- Attention to detail and the ability to follow oral and written instructions carefully
- Confidence handling dogs
- Ability to be self-sufficient and work well autonomously within a team environment
- Previous experience handling dogs preferred however not essential
- A satisfactory background check including a National Police Check, Working with Children Check, International Police Check (where relevant) and NDIS Worker Screening Check (where relevant).
- All volunteers must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
