Reid’s Story
The role of a Guide Dog is incredibly unique and requires a specific type of behaviour and personality, meaning not all dogs are suited to this role.
But, these lovingly raised pups that go through our Guide Dog Puppy Raising and/or Training program are trained with the same foundations as our Guide Dogs – making them ideal to explore new careers as Therapy Dogs, Ambassadogs spreading the word of Guide Dogs Victoria, and even pets!
We heard from Reid’s family last Christmas, and since his placement, he has become a much-loved part of his family, who are incredibly thankful to Guide Dogs Victoria for all the work they do bringing up these special dogs that play crucial roles in the lives of many.
Reid has an extra special bond with their boys and life hasn’t been the same for the family since – lots of big smooches and licks from Reid and they wouldn’t have it any other way.

Reid is loving life and exploring the world with his new family!
Curious about our Pet Program? 60 per cent of our Pet Dogs were welcomed back into the arms of their Puppy Raiser or GDV Staff, and 40 per cent were sold to families like Reid’s.
