I need help

Orientation & Mobility Specialists.

Work with Guide Dogs.

The majority of our Client Services staff are Orientation and Mobility Specialists.

Guide Dogs Victoria have many Instructors that specialise in Children’s Mobility, Adult’s Mobility, or with Clients who have an Acquired Brain Injury.

O&M Specialists equip Clients to move through their environment as safely and independently as possible. This can involve teaching the Client to use their residual vision to best effect, their other senses to compensate for changes in vision, to interpret the environment effectively, and where necessary, to use a mobility aid or Guide Dog. Programs may include road crossing safety, public transport use, long cane training, concept development and route travel skills.

To be suitably equipped for an O&M role, you must be tertiary qualified with a degree or post-graduate qualification specialising in Orientation and Mobility. To further qualify as a Guide Dog Mobility Instructor (GDMI), you must also participate in an additional 2 – 3 year cadetship run by Guide Dogs Victoria.
