This Christmas, help give someone the gift of a Guide Dog – to take them wherever life does.
Ivy was terrified by new experiences.
Until gentle Perry helped open up her world.
Little Ivy was born with significant vision loss. For years, whenever she had to go somewhere new, she clung to her mum, anxious and afraid.
The calm, comforting presence of Perry, a Therapy Dog, has transformed her life. These days, Ivy enthusiastically throws herself into gymnastics lessons and fearlessly conquers the playground. If ever Ivy feels a bit worried, she has a big, soft friend to help her feel safe. With Perry by her side, Ivy is unstoppable! Perry will also help Ivy learn how to prepare for a Guide Dog as she gets older.
Akira could have cut her education short.
Instead, Kash is taking her to university.
It’s a big step for any young person. Next year, 17-year-old Akira will leave her childhood home in regional Victoria and head off to university, where she’ll face the challenges of navigating her studies, a new environment, and the responsibilities of independent life.
Akira will take on this transition with her Guide Dog, Kash, by her side. Their beautiful bond, built on love and trust, will support them as they step into this new chapter of life – together.
Kerry’s grief and loss felt overwhelming.
Tegan gave her the confidence to step forward.
Kerry lost much of her vision over just a few months. The sudden blindness was shocking, threatening the dreams she had for herself, her husband, and their two-year-old daughter. But with the support of Guide Dogs Victoria, Kerry found ways to manage her blindness.
It was her beautiful Guide Dog, Tegan, who did the most to help Kerry return to the things that matter to her. Now, there are four in the family—and they’re looking forward once again.
By 2030, 1 in 29 Australians will be living with blindness or low vision, and many will need our support.
At the same time the cost of turning soft little puppies into highly-trained Guide Dogs is also increasing. Breeding, raising, training, and matching the right Guide Dog takes two years and over $50,000.
Your support is needed more than ever.
Your gift by 25 December could give someone like Ivy, Akira or Kerry a loyal, loving Therapy or Guide Dog – to take them wherever life does.
